Godavari Cements commits ₹18 lakh to school water and sanitation

**Hyderabad —** Akshara Spoorthi Foundation today announced a ₹18,00,000 corporate social responsibility commitment from Godavari Cements Limited, to be deployed over two years across eight government schools in Nalgonda and Suryapet districts. The grant funds the restoration of girls' toilet blocks at five schools, the installation of reverse-osmosis drinking water units with overhead storage at all eight, and three-year maintenance agreements with the respective gram panchayats. Groundwater in several of the mandals concerned exceeds permissible fluoride limits, and children currently either carry water from home or drink from the borewell. "We were shown a costed plan with eight named schools and their UDISE codes, and a line for what happens after the second year," said Chandrashekar Thota, who chairs the company's CSR committee. "That last part is what decided it." Work at five schools is complete. The remaining installations are scheduled before the end of the current financial year, and the utilisation certificate will be filed with the company and published in our annual report as usual. Akshara Spoorthi Foundation is a public charitable trust registered in 2016, working with 27 government schools across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. It holds 12A and 80G registration and a CSR-1 registration with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
