MPPS Ibrahimpur graduates out of the programme

As of this term, MPPS Ibrahimpur in Kondapak mandal is no longer an adopted school. We are treating that as the best news of our year. We adopted it in 2018. Over six years it received a drinking water connection and a purifier, two rebuilt toilet blocks, a boundary wall, thirty benches, six ceiling fans and a library of 620 titles. Total AKSF investment: ₹8,94,000. What changed this year is that the gram panchayat passed a resolution putting library replenishment, the water purifier service contract and the sanitation maintenance onto its own annual budget — about ₹34,000 a year. That is not a large sum. The point is that it is now theirs, voted on locally, and it does not depend on us existing. Adoption is a three-year commitment that in practice runs to five or six. It is supposed to end. A programme that cannot hand a school back has not built anything; it has just become a permanent second-best substitute for a functioning local government, which is not a role a small charity should want. Ibrahimpur is our first graduation. We have two more schools we think can reach the same point by 2028. We will report on those honestly whether or not they get there.
